June 2010 Nuclear medicine is a fast growing
and dynamic specialty. In recent years with the advent and
wide-spread use of PET, PET-CT, SPECT-CT and newer applications
in radionuclide therapy, there has been a need for continuous
appraisal and updating of nuclear medicine professionals on
various aspects of the changing trends in the specialty. Although
nuclear medicine is being practiced in most countries of the
world, due to heterogeneous growth of the specialty there
has been significant differences in the quality of practice
between countries. For better comprehension and uniform standards
of application in day to day clinical practice, nuclear medicine
physicians and allied professionals from both developed and
developing countries of the world need to interact in order
to update their knowledge and gain wider exposure through
more intensive theoretical and practical training in the field
of nuclear medicine. Singapore in general and Singapore General
Hospital in particular have excellent infrastructure in nuclear
medicine with state of the art equipment, expertise and infrastructure
for teaching and training. As a part of its global outreach
philosophy, the Singapore General Hospital in collaboration
with World Federation of Nuclear Medicine & Biology (WFNMB),
World Association of Radiopharmaceutical and Molecular Therapy
(WARMTH) and Society of Nuclear Medicine Singapore (SNMS)
will be organizing a “4 Day Update in Nuclear Medicine”
from 2-5 March 2011 with a view to enhance awareness about
the current trends in nuclear medicine among the nuclear medicine
physicians and Allied Professionals from around the world
in general and from the developing countries in particular.
This will be the 4th Update organized by the Department of
Nuclear Medicine & PET of Singapore General Hospital.
The SGH-Nuclear Medicine Updates held in 1008, 2009 and 2010
were highly successful attended by hundreds of participants
from around the world. Over 400 participants from 42 countries
attended the SGH NM Update 2010, which was organised in the
last week of February 2010 in conjunction with the 9th Annual
Scientific Meeting of Singapore Radiological Society. We expect
to have a large number of participants representing a much
wider global population at the 4th SGH-Nuclear Medicine Update
scheduled to be held at SGH from 2-5 March 2011.
The organizing Committee will make all efforts to provide
free or subsidized registration and/or complimentary/ subsidized
accommodation to deserving participants from developing countries.
Besides plenary lectures from world-renowned experts in the
field of nuclear medicine, there will also be scientific sessions
for presentations of proffered papers and display of posters.
Participants are encouraged to visit our website (www.sgh-nmu.org)
to register on line and submit abstracts.
